1929 R.B Rodgers powered hacksaw restore

This saw had been used as yard art for the last 5 years and prior to that was sitting in the back of a shop for no one knows how long. I got it for less than scrap metal value and over the coarse of a couple weeks restored every part of it to working condition.

Step 1

it was pretty gross and I coated the entire saw in a liberal amount of wd40 to help break up some of the stuck bolts, grease and grime

Step 2

with the help of my husband I got it on my workbench and before I took anything off of the saw I took a dozen or so pictures from every angle for reference when I reassemble. here you can see the 1/8 inch of grime that I had to remove.

Step 3

every single part had years of rust and grime 2 full cans of wd40 were sacrificed in the process of cleaning this out

Step 4

lots of primer and paint after surface prep

Step 5

the process of assembling wasn't too bad with lots of pictures and lubing up moving parts

Step 6

The first time turning on the saw after decades of not being used was thrilling. This was the video of the first cut using a little WD40 on a fresh metal blade the saw was able to cut through a 2" 6061 aluminum bar with no trouble at all. it was now working as good as it was 95 years ago
