1951 Atlas Drill Press

A local machine shop was throwing away this 1951 Atlas drill press. I saved it from the scrap yard took it home and fully restored it back to its former working condition. It was completely stripped apart, rewired, rebuilt the motor, new bearings to make sure it drills straight, and fresh hammered paint just like it would have had 70 years ago. I did this all by myself in my home garage.

Step 1

How the 70 year old drill looked when I picked it up.

Step 2

The process of restoring it. Lots of WD40 to get all the old bolts and pieces to come apart.

Step 3

All finished and ready to get back to work for another 70 years.

Step 4

I found this old machine vise at a yard sale and restored it to match.
