1975 Toyota Chinook
This is my second entry/submission for the same project. Did not read the rules/criteria until yesterday. As stated, my wiener dog and I live in this 75’ Chinook. I’ve had the motorhome for over a decade. Decided to change careers and spend the summer living in the Chinook. En route to northern ID we unfortunately lost a wheel on the interstate. The fiberglass shell, rear axle, leaf springs and brakes suffered some damage. My brother rented a U-Haul and towed us to the destination. Since then I’ve spent 2 months saving up to restore the rig to its prior glory. We currently have a few different projects going on. The highest priority is redoing the electric system; adding larger batteries and proper circuitry for running house power. This requires fabricating new inner fenders that fit larger batteries. The next priority is replacing the exhaust. It was rusted to begins with, and now is smashed. After that is repairing the damaged fiberglass of the shell. The rear driver’s side was destroyed. Both wheel wells were cracked; that has since been repaired. As is I’m working 2 jobs and slowly working towards becoming road worthy. So far we’ve rebuilt the engine, upgraded the motor mounts, swapped the drivetrain, replaced/upgraded the brakes/hydraulics, and redone the front end. Unfortunately the work ahead of us is still vast. With luck the wildland crew I’m with will be deployed to a few fires.
