Budget Roush Restoration 100% diy

Purchased a 1999 Roush Stage 2 Mustang in complete disrepair. It had not run in years and the paint was failing due to sitting outside the whole time. The engine was replaced with a used low mileage unit from a recycler. In that time all gaskets and wear parts were replaced. The engine and bay was cleaned and painted before installation. The ecu had an issue with firing all 8 cylinders so that was sent out for some electronic repair. The body was then stripped and repaired of all body damage, primed, painted with 2024 Mustang "Blue Ember pearl" paint and 5 coats of clear. After reassemble the braking system along with tires and wheels were replaced with new.

Step 1

Day one picking it up to bring to the shop

Step 2

Removed the tired low compression engine, clean and install new. It's alive!

Step 3

Strip old paint, repair some imperfections and prep for paint

Step 4

This was my first multi stage paint job. Self taught watching YouTube videos and painting a couple bumpers. This was 3 colors all metallic and then cleared.

Step 5

Made a new steering wheel cover. Yeah I learned to sew too! Installed a short shifter with a new ball and boot. Wet sanding and polishing the paint.

Step 6

The total project took a little over a year with working on it as much as possible while still maintaining a healthy marriage and doing "house projects"
