Front Support Mount Replacement /Battery Terminal Replacement
After searching the online forums and scouring Facebook marketplace for years I finally found the perfect truck that I wanted to call mine. After finally coming to an agreement on price, I ended up driving it home and man was it worth every penny. I finally got the truck home, parked it and started to do a true walk around I could not stop looking at it as I was awe struck that I finally had the truck I had been searching for for years. I knew in the back of my head that this truck was not perfect by any means but I wanted to fix it so that it would last a lifetime. So I started slowly creating a list of to-do's (change the oil, replace fuel filter, diagnose the oil leaks under the engine, change the serpentine belt, replace the batteries, trace down why the lights did not shut off when all the doors were closed, ect). Needless to say the more I looked past the surface of this truck, the more I found. I did not shy away from this as I knew what I had gotten myself into, but I could not get overwhelmed. My first projects were fixing the front support bracket as there were sheet metal screws holding the grille in place versus the standard bolts that came from the factory. As I began getting to the bolts near the headlights, I realized that I was going to have to remove the batteries in order to access the bolts behind the headlights and give my hands more room to work. Unfortunately for me, I had zero idea how bad the battery support trays were until I remover the batteries themselves (pictured below). I knew I was not going to be able to free these bolts on my own due to the rust, so I had to break out and soak the bolts in WD-40 in order to even get them to budge. After wrenching and getting these bolts removed I was able to remove the battery holding brackets and get access to the bolts located behind the headlights. I used some more WD-40 to soak the bolts and began wrenching on them to get them removed. Once removed, I was finally able to swap out the front support bracket, add in and replace my battery support brackets, and place in the new grille I had bought as a replacement for the other grille. The first of many projects on this truck turned out to be bigger that I had anticipated, but with some perseverance and patience, I think brining it all together helped put my doubt behind me. Many more projects to go on this truck, will definitely need some more WD-40 to tackle the challenges ahead.
