Picking up an old Mercedes Benz sight unseen and driving it across the country

One day out of the blue my neighbor called me and asked if I would be interested in a car. Being the car guy I am I said of course! He told me that his parents were getting older and couldn’t drive anymore. So they were looking to get rid of there old car. I asked him what car it was and where they were located. He told me it was a 1997 fully loaded Mercedes Benz E420 with 160K on the dash. It was sitting in their garage in downtown San Francisco. (2,400miles away) The car hadn’t been touched in a year and a half. He asked if I was interested and I said YES! Two weeks later my father and I flew out to California and were given the keys to a car I never thought I’d ever own. We fired it up and drove it all the way home. It ran amazing! The only issues we had was needing to put the spare tire on in Salt Lake City after one front tire was showing cords. And not having any heat in the car. (This was Thanksgiving weekend.) We ended up buy everything pair of hand and foot warmers they had at a Walmart in Cheyanne Wyoming. After we couldn’t stand the 15 degree weather anymore. We picked the car up Friday morning at 10AM and pulled into my Driveway in Southern Michigan at 9PM Sunday night. It was an amazing (and cold) adventure! The Mercedes still sits in my driveway as one of my daily drivers and I absolutely love driving the car!!!
