Runover wreck to race bike
I was beginning my journey into racing for the season and was started to get comfortable on the bike. I was testing at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI when I had a nice simple little tipover exiting a corner. Bike was fine, I was fine with practically no damage. I knew all I had to do was get back to the pits and I'd be golden. We were told we had to leave our bike if it went down and to walk away so I stepped over to the side of the track to wait. I looked down to check over my gear when suddenly I heard a loud bang and looked up to see an explosion of bike parts in front of me as another rider target fixated on my down bike and ran it over. The other bike was stopped suddenly by my now crumpled gas tank which sent the other bike and rider hurtling through the air like confetti. I had only a couple of weeks to rebuild before my races and through a lot of late nights and learning (this was my first time rebuilding a motorcycle) with a ton of determination, I was able to make the race event and get back on board. It wasn't the way I was wanting to learn the ins and outs of my bike, but when you have no choice, you stay relentless and keep grinding.
Step 1
The aftermath of the runover, glad I wasn't anywhere near it when it happened but I did get a front row seat.
Step 2
Swapped out the subframe, swingarm, frame, gas tank, exhaust, electronics, pretty much everything other than the front forks and gauges.
Step 3
More late nights, another frame swap due to some bad parts found, new paint and graphics and a labor of love complete.
