Squeaky Garage Door Silencer

My project is an easy annual or biannual cleaning and lubrication process for maintaining garage door hinges, rollers and springs. In this video and photo log, I show you a simple and easy way to not only keep your doors moving quietly but also a great way to extend the life of these parts with WD-40 White Lithium Grease.

Step 1: Brush away heavy debris

Use a soft nylon brush to remove large debris like cobwebs from hinges and rollers.

Step 2: Wipe away smaller debris

Here's a dry microfiber towel to wipe away smaller debris like dust and dead insects from hinges and rollers.

Step 3: Apply WD-40 White Lithium Grease

Spray WD-40 White Lithium Grease liberally on hinges as well as the inside bearing portion of your rollers.

Step 4: Dab excess away

Gently pat away any excess white lithium grease from the surrounding doors and surface areas that may have been over sprayed during the previous process.

Step 5: Spray springs

For this final step, make sure that your garage door is fully open and that the main springs are collapsed and not extended. Give the closed springs a liberal spray and wipe away any dripping excess that may have collected.

Step 6: Open and close the garage doors.

Cycle the opening and closing of the garage doors twice to get the bearings and hinges moving so that the white lithium grease can move around all the necessary parts and penetrate. Congratulations! You've just silenced the squeaks of your garage doors and made sure that they'll be working great for yours to come.
