The Great American Roadtripper

I am in the process of restoring my 1972 Chevrolet K10 Suburban. I traveled from KY to NM to haul home my dream family road tripper. I have always envisioned hauling my family to far flung destinations across America in an old Suburban and now I am slowly making the dream a reality. The truck was is decent shape and served on several roadtrips before I began it restore it, but it was rust and the original 350 was worn out. So I decided last summer to begin tearing it down and building it back so we can see America in some old iron. The build process so far has included extensive body panel replacement, that includes the rockers, floor pans, and bedside patches. I’ve been using WD-40 to keep my welds from rusting while I wait to start body work. For the power train I opted for a 6.0 liter LS engine, backed by an NV4500 5 speed manual transmission. I have also rebuilt the suspension and front end. During the process of upgrading and replacing 50 year old steering and suspension parts WD-40 saved time, and my sanity, by presoaking rusted and rotted nuts and bolts for easy removal. I am looked forward to finishing this project this winter and having it ready for the open road by next spring.
