Water Overfloweth the Garden

Well this was a new development ...
Finally opened the pool for the season, a chore in and of itself, and went to turn on the water to top it off.
Too bad the faucet isn't directly over the pool LOL....
Yet another task that I knew wasn't going to be as easy as an online fixit video would make it seem but I'd try it long before hiring a plumber as my water bill would find this completely unacceptable - and my plants... they just looked at me in horror.
Step 1: Pry Off the Cap

Break off the cap was more like it, but I digress....
At least it appeared that the diagnosis was correct....
Step 2: The Fun Begins - Removal of Old Part

This is the part I was dreading, and it didn't let me down.
We have VERY hard water & anything to do with pipes etc. can be a nightmare as it leaves a hard, white residue that becomes like cement. I knew this piece wasn't coming off, especially after 20+ years, without a fight & being plastic, was afraid to partially break it & get it forever stuck inside the pipe... then I'd really have a nightmare on my hands.
I was right - it was locked in tight.
Step 3: Gambling Wasn't an Option

I've relied on WD-40 for years for many tasks including getting various outdoor faucet gadgets off at the end the season.
I had faith in WD-40 & doused this plastic bane of my existence - top, sides, bottom - thank you for designing the can so it'll spray upward.
Step 4: Mission Accomplished - Part Replaced

I let the WD-40 work its magic and after a few minutes, I again grabbed my favorite adjustable pliers (all girly girls have one) and ta da! The old piece screwed out, the replacement went in, and my sigh of relief was audible...
Lastly, pop the new cap on & test....
Step 5: The Test - It Worked!!!

Well... it works well enough for me at least.. LOL
The gush is now a small sprinkle - I can live with it.
I'm calling it a success & as always, am grateful for WD-40.
A call to the plumber wasn't in the budget & having a can of WD-40 (well, turns out actually 6, but who's counting lol) once again saved the day.
Having it always on hand saves me a fortune & so much aggravation by allowing me to diy more than Iever thought I could.
Last step - expression of thanks to WD-40, a brand I'm loyal to & rely on.
